Padel Racket Shapes Explained
The shape of a padel racket decides where the sweet spot sits and how the racket feels in your hand.
- Round: the sweet spot sits in the centre of the face, so round rackets are the most forgiving and give the most control. The best choice for beginners and for defensive players who like long rallies.
- Teardrop: the sweet spot sits a little higher, giving a balance of control and power. A versatile all-round shape for improving and intermediate players.
- Diamond: the weight and sweet spot move towards the top of the head for maximum power on smashes and volleys. Less forgiving on off-centre hits, so best for advanced, attacking players. Hybrid-diamond rackets sit between teardrop and diamond.
Balance, Weight & Playing Level
Balance tells you where the weight sits. A low (handle-heavy) balance makes a racket quick and easy to control; a high (head-heavy) balance adds power but asks more of your arm and wrist. Mid balance sits in between.
Weight: most padel rackets weigh between about 340 g and 375 g. Lighter rackets are easier to swing and kinder to your arm; heavier rackets feel more stable and hit harder.
Playing level: beginner rackets usually have soft cores and fibreglass faces for comfort and an easy ball exit. Advanced rackets add carbon and firmer cores for power and precision. Browse by level: Beginner, Beginner–Intermediate, Intermediate–Advanced and Advanced & Pro.
